I think finding your perfect writing time is at the crosspoint of convenience and inspiration. I have been a morning person and a night person at various times. It usually depends on my job hours, although in high school I was up all night, every night. The older I get the more scheduled I am. These days I’m a morning person. I discovered that no matter when I wake, by 6 or 7 pm I am DONE being productive. I currently write around 10 am, although I think I actually write best between 6 and 7 am when the veil between reality and dreams is still thin. I typically write M-F but on nights and weekends, I do get bursts of creativity, and try to engage with them. I call those bonus writing sessions. I think ultimately you need to be consistent and the inspiration will follow. Figure out where you have the time, or where time could be carved out, like 7-8 pm weekdays, or only saturdays from 10-3 or whatever works for you. Then sit your butt in the chair and inspiration will learn to follow. A few years ago, I would not have told you that morning was my writing time. But that’s when I HAD time.
